In Product Form, we learned that style follows form — meaning that form should communicate the deeper attitude, values, and intention of the object. While researching different design aesthetics, I connected strongly with Memphis Design. I love Memphis because it breaks rules on purpose. It embraces color, play, pattern, and the imagination of childhood. It doesn’t try to be quiet or minimal — it tries to be alive.
As designers, we sometimes lose that sense of curiosity. We over-correct into seriousness. But children naturally explore, experiment, and create without fear. I believe that designers need to protect that inner child because that is where real creativity comes from.
Memphis design is a reminder to stay playful, stay bold, and remain true to your own sense of joy.
Memphis design is a reminder to stay playful, stay bold, and remain true to your own sense of joy.
So I created this Memphis-inspired tea cup with that philosophy in mind. The form is expressive, sculptural, and surprising — something that brings a little wow to an everyday ritual. Drinking tea becomes not just routine, but an experience that sparks delight.
Currently, the piece is being made as a prototype. Still, I plan to continue refining it and eventually produce it in real glass, so that the final object captures the same playfulness with material elegance.
This teacup is a celebration of creativity, color, and the freedom to design without fear.
